Consultations on Proposed Options for Provincial Air Quality Objectives and an Airshed Planning Framework
(Three Reports)

As an important step in developing the Provincial Framework for Airshed Planning, the Ministry of Environment sponsored stakeholder consultations in 2006. This process generated the following three reports, which provided an important basis for the final framework document.

Report 1: Consultations on Proposed Options for Provincial Air Quality Objectives and an Airshed Planning Framework: Summary Notes. March 2006.

To gain initial stakeholder input into both processes (developing provincial air quality objectives and an airshed planning framework), the ministry sponsored two initial consultations: one in Vancouver in February 2006, and the other in Prince George in March. This report summarizes the comments received, eight general issues raised, and considerations for next steps.

Report 2: A Provincial Airshed Planning Framework: Consultation Discussion Paper. June 2006.

This report provides an overview of the role of the provincial government, guiding principles and key elements in developing an airshed plan. Describing the findings of the Vancouver and Prince George consultations in February and March 2006, the report then identifies questions to be addressed in further stakeholder consultations.

Report 3: A Provincial Airshed Planning Framework: Summary of Findings from Stakeholder Consultations. July 2006.

After the first consultations in early 2006 (report 1), and the release of the discussion paper (report 2), a second round of consultations was carried out in June 2006 — in Penticton, Prince George and Vancouver. Building on the questions raised in the discussion paper, these consultations focused more specifically on the elements of an airshed planning framework for B.C., who should be involved, and how the province and others can best support the process.
