Clean Air Day across Canada
Clean Air Day usually occurs on the first Wednesday in June, but in 2011, it was on Wednesday June 8, 2011.
Here's a small sampling of national events.
National Clean Air Day
This federal campaign encourages people to adopt habits that will improve local air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. An important clean air choice is avoiding
driving whenever you can, especially driving alone (in a "single-occupant vehicle"). Instead, consider taking the bus, carpooling, cycling, rollerblading or walking.
Clean Air Day is a fun
way to start your commitment to protecting the environment and the air we breathe. Many communities in Canada have Clean Air Day activities. Visit this website to find out how you become part of the
solution.
Commuter Challenge
The Commuter Challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian cities to see which one can cut its air pollution the most, by getting out of the car and using environmentally friendly modes
of transportation instead. These include carpooling, taking public transit, cycling, rollerblading and walking! Telecommuting (working at home) is another way to reduce vehicle emissions.
National Environment Week
Environment Week is aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues, as well as promoting activities that will help preserve, protect and restore our environment. It takes place in early
June each year to coincide with World Environment Day, which was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1972. Clean
Air Day also occurs during this week.
